Who we are

Jesse Phillips (owner and head instructor) has over two decades in the martial arts with a strong background in teaching, curriculum design, technical training, and mentorship. He started Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in 2015 at Phantom BJJ in Maple Valley where he earned his purple belt. He currently trains under Brian Johnson at NWJJA where he started in 2019 when work took him out of the burbs. He earned his brown belt from Brian in 2022.

Prior to BJJ he spent over ten years in Taekwondo with 7 years of teaching experience, running classes for kids, teens, and adults, as well as before-and-after school and summer camp programs.

Outside of martial arts he also has extensive teaching experience: 10 years as a private art tutor, as well as several semesters running art classes for kids and teens during his college years. Within his professional career he has also been responsible for building, maintaining, and running peer mentor programs, technical client training modules, and technical team training.
